    Having no #plan is like sailing the seven seas without a compass, digging a ditch without a shovel, or hunting for pirates treasure without an ‘x’ marks the spot. Without one, you’re better off heading down to the horse races and betting on the ‘Win Three’. A plan helps keep you on schedule, makes it easier to recognize success and failure, helps pump you up when things aren't going so well, and most importantly, provides an essential focus—a beacon of light in an ocean full of treachery. In fact, a plan not only acts as your road map for success (a metaphor that’s been beaten to death), it is your vehicle for prosperity, or if you prefer, your own personal prescription for greatness. ~ Peter J.     At the beginning of each week, create a #training and meal plan that includes your #workouts as well as your rest days and the meals and snacks you will consume.
     
    Make sure that you #schedule at least a 48-hour rest period between training the same body part back-to-back or 72 hours if you’re lifting to failure (when you cannot do reps anymore). Consider cross-training to take the load off your muscles as well as adding inactive rest days where you perform a low-intensity activity, such as walking, lightly jogging or swimming.

    Snacking Success
     
    #Snacking can be a dangerous past time as it can lead to overeating and the in-take of a surprising high degree of calories. It is easy to be lulled into the false sense of security that you are “just eating a bit”. The wrong type of snacks even in moderation can still lead to #weight gain and lethargy.
     
    The secret to snacking is to snack wisely on nutritious snack foods matched with your #goals.
     
    Again we refer our readers to a nutritionist or dietician for more information on the “right” form of snacking to meet your individual needs.
     
    Personally I have successfully snacked on:
     
    • Unsalted brown rice cakes with either cashew butter or sliced banana
     
    • Boiled eggs with sliced tomato
     
    • Fresh fruit salad with low fat natural yogurt and honey
     
    • Veggie sticks with hummus or low fat cottage cheese
     
    • Dried fruits or raw nuts and crispy breads with peanut butter or vegemite
     
    • Low sugar muesli bars

    Nutrition - The Total Balanced Meal
     
    Definition: “Diet” Consisting of the proper quantities and proportions of foods needed to maintain #health and growth. As touched on in TIP #3 you have to fuel the engine with the right food to sustain long-term performance and avoid injury and burnout.
     
    We recommend to our readers that you engage with a local nutritionist or dietician for advice on your particular needs.
     
    Everyone requires a #balanceddiet that consists of the right nutrients in the right quantities customized to their own body type.
     
    Personally I have found that to keep meal planning interesting and easy while providing balanced meals the whole family will enjoy, ask yourselves these questions:
     
    What season is it? In the summer enjoy more grilling. In the winter, you’ may prefer more stews and casseroles. What's in the pantry and fridge? Keep cupboards and refrigerator freezer full of #nutritious rich food. Does every meal need to be balanced? No, however, this rule of thumb for menu planning is a simple way to plan healthy family meals.
     
    Balanced meals from each food group include milk and milk products, vegetables, fruits, grains and meats.
     
    When planning a meal, try to include “five of five” such as spaghetti. It is a frequent menu for families and includes ground meat, vegetables (onion), mushrooms, marinara sauce and grains (spaghetti). If serving oatmeal for breakfast, consider adding yogurt and fruits to add flavour or a cooked egg to boost protein.
     
    As children get older, the balanced meal approach can be varied by adding more vegetables onto casseroles or adding fruit into a quesadilla or green salad.

    The fascinating history of #Capoeira!
     
    Dating back to the slave culture of Brazil in the 1500s, slaves developed this Afro-Brazilian martial arts form as a self-defence against their oppressors. It was also an art form and a manifestation of their Afro culture and customs.
     
    To this day it has evolved into an outstanding form of #exercise. Accompanied with music, it includes slow controlled acrobatics (not unlike break-dancing) and combines kicks, strikes sometimes even from upside-down positions.

    Did you know that to lose one pound by exercising, you need to burn approximately 3,000 calories
     
    This equates to approximately 3-hours of rigorous exercising per week or 1-hour daily based on three #workouts per week. It is recommended that you work out 3 times per week for 60-minutes (a recommend daily maximum) and maintain a #balanceddiet.

    Body Specific Training - Get Lean Legs
     
    No matter what your #goals for #fitness are (size, strength, athletic performance or general health), if you ignore leg #training you are essentially ignoring the body part that can lead to the greatest improvements.
     
    Include plyomeric #exercise as a portion of your leg #workouts each day doing box jumps, sled pulls and weighted vertical jumps. Also focus your training on specific areas such as quadriceps, hamstrings, and calves. You will get improved muscle gain and definition.
     
    Your legs are the biggest #muscle group you have and they need to be worked on to create a wonderful body shape.
     
    For best results, keep the leg exercise intensity high, using super sets and drop sets while keeping rest to a minimum. Some #athletes add triple sets at the end of workouts to get muscle fatigue and increase fat burn. Studies have shown that after intense workouts you need to stretch out your muscles. Try a foam roller to roll the specific muscle area in order to improve muscle recovery and flexibility.

    Get Better Muscle Bulk the Right Way
     
    It is generally assumed that forcing your #muscles to grow is easy. All you have to do is LIFT BIG, EAT BIG AND GET BIG. Unfortunately that is not true and is accepted now as out-dated thinking. The key to building a lean muscle body mass is in aligning your natural muscle; growth and recovery systems. This produces results that are predictable and sustainable.
     
    Balancing #cardio and #weighttraining allows your muscles to fully recover before adding more weight.
     
    To build upper body mass by doing chest presses, a woman might start at just 20 lbs. with 3 sets of 10 reps or for lower body muscle mass, complete 3 sets of 10 reps on 30 lbs. in any one workout. Then she wouldn’t increase the weight until the muscles have fully adjusted which may take several workouts to accomplish.

    Workout Length Vs. Intensity
     
    The higher the intensity of your #workout, the more calories you will burn.
     
    Everyone knows that right? Sure...but do we practice it?
     
    Working out at a low to moderate intensity for 60-90 minutes will #burnfat but not at the level that gets you to your #goals as effectively as shorter, more intense cardio exercising or cardio #kickboxing will.
     
    If you intensify the workout you can achieve greater results in less time.
     
    For example, if you are a beginner at exercising, add 100 floors on the StairMaster for 30 minutes to your #exercise program. If you are a more advance athlete, then add 160 floors on the StairMaster for just 20 minutes.

    What does it take to get a “Rockin” body? It doesn’t take spending hour after hour at the gym. You have to fuel the engine too.
     
    #Nutrition counts for 80% of how your body will respond to your #fitnessprogram
     
    If you do not eat properly i.e., balanced meals, you will not see the desired results and you may burn out!
     
    Assuming good nutrition is in place, then while you are at the #gym (or at home or outdoors) choose #workouts that opt for interval or circuit style training. Intervals or circuit workouts get your heart rate up in short spurts several times.

    Medical professionals and #trainers will agree that anyone serious about #losingweight or #gettingfit needs to consume water.
     
    Drink a minimum daily consumption of 3 – 4 litres of water.
     
    This excludes juices and certainly does not include pop. In fact pop, diet or otherwise, is not conducive to #goodhealth and should be eliminated as a source of fluids.
