2 weeks ago by Annex Animal HospitalHi, Sherri here. We've had many questions about this little guy, and I'd like to thank everyone for their concern and good wishes for him.
His surgery was a bit tricky due to both his eyes being deformed and it was touch and go for a little while, but Dr. Rifkind and Venessa Drakes pulled him through with the help of many others. At home we kept him confined in his big carrier only letting him out to eat and go to the bathroom both of which we helped him with. He had a head tilt and when we weren't guiding him, he would turn in circles until he fell over. On Saturday morning he was panting a bit so we brought him in to see Dr. Chan and after examining him and checking his lungs and heart, she determined that he was physically fine and that the panting was due to him being stressed so she increased the dose of his anti-anxiety medication. That worked wonders for him!
Over time he stopped circling and his head tilt improved and within a couple of days, he was finding his way around the apartment without our help. Now, he is getting around perfectly! He purrs as soon as we pet him, he snuggles, he finds his food and his box without any problem; he jumps up on the bed (has a bit more trouble getting down but we're going to build something for him to make it easier), he's washing himself now, and happy as a clam!
He needs to come in this week to have a follow up and have his stitches removed. We are so happy that he's doing so well. We are going to try putting a harness on him so he can sit out on the porch with us - will keep you updated!2 weeks ago Sarah Macgregor

Dr. Rifkind is truly amazing. If not for him my own little kitty would not be here today. So happy to see he is still at it, touching the lives and hearts of so many precious animals ❤️2 weeks ago Sarah Curtis

3 weeks ago by Annex Animal HospitalHi everyone, Sherri here. It's a big day for this little guy, the stray I took in several weeks ago. Because of his painful, irreversible, eye issues, Dr. Rifkind recommended removing his eyes. He has microphthalmia - not fully formed eyeballs - cannot see out of his left eye and has only slight vision out of his right. He also has chronic, painful eye infections, and his "good" eye has a deep ulcer on it. The poor guy's had a tough life. My partner and I only want the best for him and while it's an emotionally charged decision to remove his eyes, and take away the small amount of vision he has, we are going ahead with the surgery today. We've never lived with a blind animal, and worry about what this change will mean for his ongoing socialization. But, whatever comes, we'll be there to help him through it!3 weeks ago Alison Millington
Oh man! I agree with Kim, you guys are awesome. He will acclimatize in no time and he will soon be pain free.3 weeks ago Sarah Curtis

Stay strong Sherri! We had to make the same decision a month ago for Finn (his problem stems from cataracts secondary to diabetes). He's adjusted well and 99% of the time his personality is the exact same! Best of luck!3 weeks ago Shelly Faber
You're awesome, Sherri. Sending wishes for the surgery to go well, and as easy as possible. And speedy healing. He's in great hands, with all of you.3 weeks ago Marianna Pinto
