Description:

Bellwoods Brewery is a small craft brew pub and retail store in downtown Toronto. We opened our doors to the public on April 6, 2012, and have been brewing full-steam ahead ever since (actually, to be honest we direct-fire, not steam). At a relatively small production capacity of approximately 2200 hectolitres of beer a year, we’re able to exercise a lot of creative freedom, brewing up anything and everything that floats our collective boats. We encourage you to step outside your comfort zone.

    After a long hiatus, this spritzy number is now back in our shops. Brettal Head is a juicy pale ale fermented entirely with Brett D from our good friends at @escarpmentlabs, and dry-hopped heavily with Citra and Amarillo. A super refreshing summer crusher, with big notes of pineapple, melon, and banana popsicles. We have about 900 bottles at Ossington right now, and about 450 at Hafis. We’ll be bottling another small run on Monday.

    Fresh off the line! Don’t let the familiar label fool you, this batch of Monogamy Columbus is something special. It was hit with with two huge dry-hops to bring heavy layers of naval oranges and tangerine. One of our biggest dry-hops to date. Columbus is often overlooked and overshadowed by new-age hops, but this boom-juice proves it’s a classic. Available in our shops now. Brettal Head will also be hitting the shelves today, stay tuned.

    I had to wait 2 hours 10 minutes in (not overly long) line to purchase a bottle of Motley Cru at Hafis Rd. Sorry guys - I love your beer - but this is abuse of customers. If you want to have a popular retail store you need to have more than one cash register, with a slow credit card machine.....

    This guava-lava will go on sale when our shops open tomorrow (Ossington 11, Hafis 12). Will likely be gone by the weekend. Yes, we could wait until Saturday and release it on Motley Day, but it's very difficult to find space to accommodate multiple releases at our tiny Ossington shop. Plus, who doesn't need a Tuesday pick me up? $7.50/bottle. 6/person limit

    On June 10th we mark our (belated) 5th anniversary by releasing Motley Cru 2017. While this barrel blend changes from year to year, the 2017 version is a blend of 1 and 2 year old wild ale barrels, conditioned on passionfruit puree, and then bottle conditioned for several months. It features a crisp acidity, a healthy oak backbone, bursting passionfruit aroma, and plenty of wild ale funk. Notes of bell pepper, cracked pepper, fuzzy peach, and five-alive. We have a good number of 500mL bottles ($15) and a limited number of 750mL bottles ($23), split between our two stores.

    We’re not shy about the fact that we’re constantly evolving and improving our recipes. All of our brands are constantly subject to carefully considered ingredient tweaks and process changes in order to develop them into the best beers we can possibly imagine. Monogamy is no exception, and this beer has seen fairly large changes over the last couple years. Still a profile of a single hop, Monogamy is now brewed with a heavy dose of oats. We ferment the beer with a more expressive yeast than we used to, and we have tripled the dry hop since we first brewed this beer.
     
    Monogamy Amarillo is now available at our bottle shops, and will be on draught later this weekend.

    Blackberry Milkshark IPA will be available tomorrow at both bottle shops, and briefly on draught at Ossington. This hazy treat was brewed with lactose sugar and apple pectin, conditioned on vanilla and blackberry purée, and dry-hopped heavily. We have 400 bottles at Hafis (open at 12), and about 850 bottles at Ossington (open at 11). $7.50/bottle, limit 4/person.

Blackberry Jelly 👑!!! - Deep ruby coloured Jelly King dry hopped sour variant with well balanced blackberry jam notes, 2. 💯- 100% oat pale ale (using two types of malted oats and flaked unmalted oats) massively dry hopped with Mosaic and Mandarina Bavaria, 3.     We brewed our first spontaneous fermentation yesterday! The hot wort was pumped into our coolship and cooled overnight while being inoculated with wild microflora. It's now being put into cleaned and steamed barrels where we plan to leave it for close to 3 years. Hopefully we will then be able to blend it with younger batches to make a beer following the practices of Lambic Gueuze producers. Though Lambic and Gueuze are regional designations coming from specific brewers in the Brussels and the Pajottenland area of Belgium, it is our goal to follow the principles of Lambic brewers like Cantillon and Drie Fonteinen. Recently @jesterkingbrewery has been leading an effort to designate beers in this style produced outside of the Lambic region as Méthode Gueuze - we support that effort, and find it truly inspiring.

    C-Star Pale Ale on shelves today.
    This massively dry-hopped haze-bomb is a tribute to some classic hops: Cascade, Chinook, and Columbus. Brewed with oats and pale malts, this fresh squeeze features a huge aroma of citrus peel and green tea. It caries a smooth body, and finishes with a soft bitterness and lingering note of zest and resin.
    5.2%, $5.50/bottle.

    🍀Happy St. Patrick’s Day! We have two new beers hitting the bottle shops today. Pineapple Milkshark IPA and Runes Double Dry-Hopped IPA (Citra/Mosaic).

    Milkshark was inspired by the Milkshake IPAs brewed by @tiredhandsbrewing and @omnipollo (huge thank you to those two breweries for pioneering this style). This beer was brewed with lactose sugar, apple pectin, conditioned on a huge amount of pineapple purée and vanilla, and dry-hopped with a very heavy hand. 7%ABV, $7/bottle.

    Runes DDH IPA is brewed with wheat and a big dose of oats. This version is heavily dry-hopped with Mosaic and Citra, and again with Mosaic lupulin powder. 6.7%ABV, $6/bottle.

    We're brewing our first batch of Skeleton Key at our Hafis Road facility! This Spiced Imperial Stout receives a 4 hour boil with molasses and a blend of spices, and is then aged in rum barrels (with vanilla and more spicing) for a year.
